There’s 24 trash sites including three new ones opening tomorrow
But five locations at capacity, leaving just 19 for legal dumping

It’s day 24 of Toronto’s strike. Here’s the latest on where to throw trash legally.
The newspaper I work for the Town Crier posted an updated map of all locations.

Garbage strike rages on and three more trash sites close

Beach residents looking for a place to legally throw their trash on day 24 of the Toronto’s labour disruption will find Ted Reeve Arena’s temp dump site closed today.
As well as the local arena, two more sites were closed July 15. At the same time three new ones opened. Click here for full story I reported today for the Town Crier newspaper.
However garbage will remain at the parking lot at this arena until the strike, which began June 22, is over.
That may or may not be good news for fans attending professional wrestling matches on July 24-25 at the indoor arena near Main and Gerrard.
The Death Before Dishonor VII series at the local arena is a hot ticket item attracting fans locally and also south of the border.

Three new dumps at Clairlea Park Arena, Campbell Park, L’Amoreaux Park
And trash sites shut at Earlscourt Park, Ted Reeve Arena Wishing Well Park

Three more neighbourhood garbage dumps have reach capacity at Earlscourt Park, Ted Reeve Arena and Wishing Well Park forcing the city to close them tonight at 7 p.m. In response a trio of new temporary trash locations will open tomorrow morning. “All closed sites will continue to be patrolled round-the-clock by both security and city staff and all health and environmental protection measures will continue,” solid waste manager Geoff Rathbone said at a media briefing this afternoon. Starting on July 16 at 7 a.m. three new temporary trash sites will open: Clairlea Park Arena in the parking lot at near Warden and St. Clair Aves. Campbell Park outdoor rink at 225 Campbell Ave. near Dupont St. and Lansdowne Ave. L’Amoreaux Park’s parking lot at 100 Silver Springs Blvd. east of Birchmount Rd. and north of Finch Ave. East. News of Toronto labour unrest hits fans across North America
Temp dump outside arena, but inside pro wrestling event a go

Wrestling fans across North America are trash-talking Toronto.
News of the city’s labour disruption has travelled south of the border as fans who plan to attend the two-day Death Before Dishonor VII series at Ted Reeve Arena wonder how the strike may affect them.
The event by American promoter Ring of Honor will feature dozens of wrestlers including the Super Smash Brothers and Frankie the Mobster on July 24–25. Also on hand are World Wrestling Entertainment alumni Bret “Hitman” Hart and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair for autographs.
News of Toronto’s strike was a hot topic on an online message board for Ring of Honor. Enthusiasts online are wondering if it is worth the trip to Toronto.
But the show will go on fans: operations at Ted Reeve are going on as scheduled. The arena is run by a city-appointed management board and operated by non-unionized staff.
But that doesn’t mean visitors won’t catch a whiff of garbage.
The arena’s parking lot has been converted into one of the city’s temporary mini-dump sites.

Ted Reeve Arena open during strike

Ted Reeve Arena and eight other city arenas are not impacted by the labour disruption.
A New Yorker who is attending a pro wrestling event later this month at this arena, near Main and Gerrard, e-mailed me July 5 to inquire if the facility was still open.
While I missed it the first time I checked, the city’s website clearly states this arena plus George Bell, Larry Grossman Forest Hill Memorial Area, McCormick Playground Arena, Moss Park, North Toronto Memorial, William H. Bolton, Lakeshore Lions and Weston Lions are open.
Each of these facilities are run by a city-appointed management board. So they are not staffed by CUPE union locals 79 and 416, which went on strike June 22.
I also called Ted Reeve Arena and the manager confirmed they are indeed open and no one has cancelled events as of yet because of the city strike.
The city has set up 21 temporary dumps, two are now closed, including one outside the Ted Reeve site. But that doesn’t impact programming at this indoor arena.
