John Tory will contribute to city outside publicly-elected office.

While he says important issues aren’t being addressed by mayoral candidates, John Tory feels he can do more to help those causes from outside city hall.
“If you think these issues aren’t being addressed, as I do, then should I enter the race?” Tory said in an interview with the Town Crier after announcing that he won’t reconsider his decision not to run for mayor.
“I decided I regret those issues aren’t being addressed in debates, but I can continue to raise these issues and have some of the candidates on my  talk show,” said Tory, who host a radio show on NewsTalk 1010.
Top of his list of issues that should be on the election agenda for mayoral candidates are ways to improve the quality of life in the city’s high-needs, low-income priority neighbourhoods.
“There are hundreds of thousands of people in those neighbourhoods, who aren’t getting the hand up to get those jobs,” he said. “They can’t support their own family in a more effective manner. And we are missing their talents and abilities in growing our economy.”

Former mayoral candidate John Tory says he doesn’t like the direction the city is going, but won’t commit to running for its top job.
After moderating a mayoral debate focused on development, transit and city-building this morning, Tory addressed the question on many a political watcher’s mind: Is he jumping into the mayoral race?
“In my case as of the moment I am not running for anything except maybe cover once in awhile,” he joked with reporters.
But he indicated he’s learned never to say never.
The last day to register as a candidate in the city election is September 10. And while anything can happen, Tory remains coy about his intentions.
“There are many, many, many days we can all enjoy ourselves and watch what’s going on in politics,” he said.

Toronto budget chief Shelley Carroll has made her decision.
After months of considering running for the city’s top political post, the Don Valley  East councillor registered this morning not as a mayoral candidate but for re-election in her ward 33.

Meanwhile as of mid-day Jan. 12, sixteen people have registered for the mayor’s seat.

One thing is certain in life – that’s change. And we can count on that in this city’s election. The vote is Oct. 25.
Of the 44 incumbent city councillors so far 35 current Toronto politicians have signed up for re-election in their own ward. Of the remaining 9 incumbents: 2 are running for mayor instead and 7 aren’t running at all. Want to see for yourself?
Check the city’s election website that shows all 477 candidates running for mayor, councillor and school trustee positions.
Here’s the scope on where all the candidates stand as of Sept. 10 the final nomination day.
Mayor David Miller is not running for re-election. There are 40 candidates registered to run for mayor.
Council races – there are 279 candidates running for 44 council seats
Ron Moeser (Scarborough East Ward 44) has registered and so have three others: Diana Hall, Heath Thomas and Mohammed Mirza.
Paul Ainslie (Scarborough East Ward 43) is running again and has four challengers: John Laforet, Benjamin Mbaegbu, Bhaskar Sharma and Samuel Getachew.
