Cadillac Fairview is expanding its real estate empire in Don Mills.
The developer recently acquired a soon-to-be shut Canada Post outlet on The Donway West. This is their newest acquisition at Lawrence and Don Mills, where the developer has built Shops on Don Mills. There is also a massive $225 million development of retail, office space and residential towers waiting in the wings.
Cadillac Fairview is leasing the property to Canada Post until the end of February when the post office at 169 The Donway West will close and move operations to Wynford Drive. Continue reading

Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong wants the city to consider The Donway site as a possible location for new city ice rink.

A soon-to-be vacant post office in Don Mills could be an opportunity to acquire land for a new city ice arena in Don Mills, says Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong.
The site, at 169 The Donway West, is for sale. It’s located near the Don Mills Civitan Arena, an aging facility the city is trying to replace by 2020, when developer Cadillac Fairview takes over that site as part of its residential redevelopment.
The city’s in search of an affordable and suitable spot for a new ice arena in Don Mills and Minnan-Wong said the post office site is worth exploring.
“I heard it was on the market,” Minnan-Wong said July 29. “There were lots of rumours.”

Mayor Miller important announcement

Will he step down earlier, step back in mayor’s race?

Tonight at 6:11 pm the city and Mayor David Miller’s office sent the media, including me, a vague head’s up he planned to make an important announcement. He will be speaking from his office at 9:30 am tomorrow and I will be there to report on it for the Town Crier newspaper.
Because his office and councillors are being so tight lipped about this announcement, the speculation is Miller will say something on his political future: either he will step down earlier to accept a new job or he’ll jump back into the 2010 Toronto mayor’s race. Continue reading
